Meet Steve, Steve has been with Avenues SLS for 23 years. He loves to volunteer in the community and brighten a person’s day with his infectious laugh. Every Tuesday, Steve happily buys three dozen roses using his own money and then goes to the local SCV convalescent hospital and passes them out to women hospitalized there – a bright and cheery rose to help make their day happy. Steve has been doing this for about ten years, now. In fact, many of the long-term residents at the hospital anxiously wait for his weekly visit, listening for his cheerful “singing” as he makes his way down the halls. Sadly, he is often the only one to visit them consistently that is not a paid caretaker.

Steve also spends one day each week at Hart Park where he helps with park beautification. In addition, Steve voluntarily and faithfully purchases and delivers food donations to both the SCV Food Pantry and Feed the Children each week. The other volunteers look forward to his cheerful greeting as he brings in bags of much-needed items to stock the shelves in each facility.

As if that wasn’t enough, he is a volunteer once a week in the evening at the Salvation Army in Canyon Country where he helps organize hangers and clothing racks. He also volunteers for Souls4Soles all over the Santa Clarita Valley, passing out flyers and collecting shoes for this worthy organization.

Steve is active in the community every day. He helps make SCV the thriving, caring and vibrant community we all call home. His transportation to and from each volunteer location every week is over 150 miles.

You can help Steve to continue making a difference in the lives of so many SCV residents by making a donation to his transportation costs. Text the word Fuel8 to 71777 or visit his page at bit.ly/AvenuesFuel
